ASEAN energy ministers and partner countries have reaffirmed support for stronger regional energy cooperation, with discussions focusing on electricity grid connectivity, emergency preparedness and long-term energy security. Meetings held under the ASEAN energy cooperation framework examined rising energy demand, supply chain risks and geopolitical uncertainty, while highlighting the importance of resilient infrastructure, regional power trading and coordinated transition planning. The discussions formed part of the ASEAN ministerial energy meetings with dialogue partners hosted under the Philippines’ chairmanship.
Delegates acknowledged that increasing energy demand, market volatility and potential supply disruptions are placing greater pressure on national energy systems across Southeast Asia. Ministers agreed that strengthening fuel reserves, improving crisis response arrangements and expanding cross-border energy cooperation would be important to improving regional resilience.
Discussions with the United States focused on the ASEAN Power Grid (APG), civil nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and power market development.
China reiterated support for energy storage, renewable energy integration, offshore wind and cross-border electricity trading.
