The traditional authorities of the Kuna de Wargandí region gave their consent to the resolution that initiates the process of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) in the framework of the proposed electrical interconnection between Colombia and Panama.
For this purpose, a delegation of the traditional authorities of the indigenous region traveled to Panama City to formally deliver the resolution to the National Energy Secretariat (SNE) and the Vice Ministry of Indigenous Affairs of the Ministry of Government.
The event marks a milestone in the relationship between the State and indigenous communities, according to an official press release.
The resolution, approved by the General Assembly meeting in the indigenous community of Morti on August 18, 2026, formalizes the commitment to develop the consultation in accordance with national and international standards, with the full, informed and voluntary participation of the communities.
