Egypt plans to invest EGP136.3 billion ($2.8 billion) in its electricity and renewable energy sector for the fiscal year (FY) 2025/26, according to a plan outlined by the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation. The ministry indicated that the total targeted investments represent a substantial increase from the EGP72.6 billion ($1.5 billion) aimed for FY 2024/25 and the EGP95.8 billion in actual investments recorded in FY 2023/24.

Furthermore, Egypt seeks to expand its electricity interconnections with neighboring countries, including increasing interconnection capacity with Sudan and completing the direct current project with Saudi Arabia, facilitating cross-border energy trade and reinforcing regional energy integration.
