Malaysia is diversifying its energy partnerships and accelerating cross-border collaboration. As the 2025 ASEAN Chair, the country is spearheading the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) initiative, aiming to integrate regional electricity networks and enhance renewable energy trade. The APG's Enhanced Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), expected to be finalized by year-end, will focus on cross-border transmission infrastructure, enabling countries like Laos and Thailand to export hydropower to Malaysia and Singapore. This regional integration not only reduces dependency on volatile global markets but also aligns with Malaysia's goal of becoming a green energy hub.
