Now in its 30th year of operation, (Angola, the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) – a regional power transmission and trading system -- is collaborating with financial institutions to accelerate power generation and distribution capacity throughout the region. Recently the World Bank has provided support to SAPP’s initiative designed to expand and modernize SAPP infrastructure. The $12 million in financing will be used to enhance renewable energy integration and grid infrastructure throughout the SAPP region. SAPP has committed $20 million of its own resources to support infrastructure development projects across its twelve member countries (Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe).
