The energy regulators of Singapore and Malaysia renewed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will see them further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the sector.

First signed in 2020, the Energy Market Authority of Singapore (EMA) and Energy Commission of Malaysia (Suruhanjaya Tenaga — ST) have since held regular bilateral dialogues and technical exchanges.

The two regulators said in a joint statement on Monday (Oct 26) that the renewal, as they celebrate their 25th anniversaries this year, marks an important milestone in the two countries' continued commitment to deepen regulatory cooperation.

Under the renewed agreement, the regulators will strengthen cooperation, regulatory exchanges and knowledge sharing.

These will cover planning and reliability of electricity and piped gas systems, regulation of wholesale and retail electricity markets, implementation of cross-border electricity trading projects, Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), and interconnection capacity.
