Singapore’s energy authority says a cross-border energy project with Cambodia will play a significant role in advancing the ASEAN Power Grid (APG).

A spokesperson for the Singapore Energy Market Authority (EMA) said the plan to import one gigawatt of low-carbon electricity from Cambodia will also support Cambodia’s renewable energy development.

Most of Cambodia’s renewable energy comes from solar farms and hydro-electric power.

“If realised, the large-scale cross-border electricity trading between Cambodia and Singapore will be a key building block in developing the APG,” the spokesperson said.

Singapore has been working with partners including Cambodia, Vietnam, Australia, Indonesia and Malaysia to build a regional grid capable of harnessing these resources efficiently. Officials say this growing cooperation will help advance the goal of a regional power network and support the integration of more renewable energy into national energy systems.
