Thirteen African countries are set to benefit from a newly approved $3.9 million (Sh503 million) funding kitty over the next two years to support the implementation of their National Energy Compacts.
The move is aimed at accelerating power connections under Mission 300, the AfDB–World Bank initiative targeting electricity access for 300 million Africans by 2030.
According to the African Development Bank (AfDB), the programme will run for the next two years.
Known as AESTAP Mission 300 Phase II, the project will provide direct support to Chad, Gabon, Tanzania, Mauritania, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya, Nigeria, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Malawi, Lesotho, Namibia and Uganda.
Under this programme, AfDB seeks to help governments improve electricity regulation, planning and tariff frameworks.
