The Government of Botswana has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with India’s KP Group to accelerate the development of large-scale renewable energy projects, marking a major step in the country’s clean energy transition. The agreement represents an estimated investment of USD 4 billion and could raise Botswana’s renewable energy capacity to nearly 5 gigawatts (GW).

Concluded between Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy and the KP Group—comprising KPI Green Energy, KP Energy and KP Green Engineering—the MoU establishes a framework for cooperation on renewable power generation, energy storage and transmission infrastructure. The initiative supports Botswana’s ambition to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 and positions the country as a potential exporter of clean power within Southern Africa.

Minister of Minerals and Energy Bogolo Joy Kenewendo described the partnership as a milestone in Botswana’s sustainable energy journey. She noted that the collaboration would enhance regional energy integration while supporting skills development through a KP Group–funded scholarship programme offering 30 annual scholarships to Botswana citizens.
