The World Bank and African Development Bank have launched an initiative to connect 300 million people in Africa to electricity by 2030. Grid upgrades and off-grid solutions are central to the plan to unlock health, education and economic development.

To reach that target, the initiative combines grid expansion with decentralised, off-grid technologies designed to access even the most remote communities. These technologies include solar-powered mini-grids and standalone systems.
